Collection Services Librarian

About the role

The LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center seeks a Collection Services Librarian to lead development, acquisition, and access to its print and electronic legal collections. Reporting to the Head of Resource Management, the role supports teaching, research, and service missions of the Law Center.

Key responsibilities

• Lead collection development, assess existing holdings, identify gaps, and recommend purchases and cancellations.
• Manage acquisitions workflows for print and electronic resources, including ordering, receiving, and monitoring expenditures.
• Perform copy cataloging using MARC21, RDA, LC Subject Headings, and Classification, ensuring metadata quality.
• Participate in professional development and library organizations to stay current with best practices.
• Collaborate on policies, workflows, and strategic projects with library faculty and staff.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA‑accredited program.
• At least 3 years of professional experience in acquisitions, collection development, cataloging, or technical services in an academic or law library.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MARC21, RDA, and authority control standards.
• Experience using OCLC Connexion and integrated library systems.
• Familiarity with Exlibris Alma and vendor platforms such as GOBI.
