Traffic Management Center Operator

About the role

Kapsch TrafficCom is hiring TMC Operators for the Gateway Guide Traffic Management Center in Chesterfield, Missouri. You will use ITS technologies to monitor roadway conditions, detect incidents and coordinate with first responders, while sharing traveler information with the public. The schedule is full-time (40 hours per week) on the AM shift (6AM-2:30PM) or PM shift (2:00PM-10:30PM), Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor traffic conditions using ITS technologies such as cameras, sensors and information systems.
• Identify and track incidents and roadway issues using CCTV, patrol and police reports and other data.
• Coordinate and dispatch incident responses by radio, phone or internal systems.
• Enter and manage data in real-time systems, keeping accurate records of incidents and response actions.
• Help compile traffic and incident data for reports on travel time, incident summaries and equipment status.
• Provide traveler information to the public through variable message signs, websites and partner agencies.
• Work with teammates, first responders and other stakeholders to run daily operations.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED required; college degree or related work experience in transportation, public safety, dispatch or customer service preferred.
• No previous TMC or ITS experience required.
• Strong knowledge of St. Louis-area roadways and geography.
• Ability to pass a comprehensive background check.
• Flexibility to work holidays and weekends as part of a 24/7/365 operation.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Windows-based systems and a multi-monitor workstation.
• Fast, accurate typing in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, prioritization and teamwork.
