TMC Operator I

About the role

Kapsch TrafficCom is hiring TMC Operators for its Gateway Guide Traffic Management Center in Chesterfield, Missouri. The operator monitors roadway conditions, detects incidents and coordinates with first responders while sharing traveler information with the public. The position is full-time (40 hours per week) on either the AM shift (6AM-2:30PM) or the PM shift (2:00PM-10:30PM), running Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday.

Key responsibilities

• Use ITS technologies on a multi-monitor workstation to monitor traffic conditions and detect incidents
• Identify and track incidents using CCTV, patrol and police reports and other data sources
• Coordinate and dispatch incident responses by radio, phone or internal systems
• Input and manage data in real-time systems and keep accurate records of incidents and response actions
• Help compile traffic and incident data for reports such as travel time, incident summaries and equipment status
• Provide traveler information to the public through variable message signs, websites and partner agencies
• Work with teammates, first responders and other stakeholders to run daily operations

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED required
• No prior TMC or ITS experience needed
• College degree or related work experience in transportation, public safety, dispatch or customer service preferred
• Strong knowledge of St. Louis-area roadways and geography
• Ability to pass a comprehensive background check
• Flexibility to work holidays and weekends as part of a 24/7/365 operation
