Telecommunicator Trainee – Statewide 9‑1‑1 Dispatch

About the role

The Illinois State Police Division of Statewide 9‑1‑1 is seeking a detail‑oriented, service‑focused Telecommunicator Trainee to join a six‑ to twelve‑month training program. You will develop core dispatch skills, learn communication protocols, FCC regulations, radio and teletype operations, and ISP computer systems.

Key responsibilities

• Update manuals, maintain files, and enter operational data.
• Attend meetings and workshops to support development toward full telecommunicator proficiency.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to public service.
• Ability to follow communication protocols and maintain accurate records.

Required skills

• Knowledge of communication protocols used by emergency dispatch.
• Understanding of FCC regulations applicable to public safety communications.
• Experience with radio and teletype operations.
• Proficiency with ISP computer systems for dispatch functions.
