Retail Food Compliance Specialist – Metro District

About the role

The Georgia Department of Agriculture is seeking a Retail Food Compliance Specialist to join its Food Safety Division. You will conduct unannounced inspections of retail food establishments across a designated metro district, ensuring compliance with state health and sanitation regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform random, unannounced inspections of grocery stores, bakeries, convenience stores, mobile meat trucks, and other licensed retail food outlets.
• Collect food, water, and environmental samples for laboratory analysis and transport them within prescribed timeframes.
• Verify the accuracy of scales, proper operation of refrigeration equipment, and correct product packaging and labeling.
• Observe food handling practices, equipment cleaning procedures, and the use of insecticides and sanitizing chemicals.
• Investigate food wholesomeness after disasters such as fire or flood.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of applicable policies, laws, and guidance documents.
• Attend training sessions, meetings, and conferences as required.

Required profile

• Residency within the assigned territory (Floyd, Chattooga, Dade, Polk counties).
• Completion of the Retail Standardization program.
• Ability to conduct thorough inspections and document findings accurately.
