Correctional Officer Trainee – Hill Correctional Center

About the role

The Correctional Officer Trainee program prepares new cadets for a career in public safety with the Illinois Department of Corrections. Trainees receive eight weeks of formal pre‑service security training followed by on‑the‑job instruction at one of the state’s correctional facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Complete formalized pre‑service security and custodial training at the IDOC Training Academy.
• Perform security and custodial duties under supervision at assigned correctional centers.
• Participate in a graduation ceremony where trainees receive certificates, badges, and take the Oath of Office.
• Maintain physical fitness standards required for correctional officer duties.

Required profile

• Physically fit and able to meet screening standards prior to training.
• Authorized to work full‑time in the United States.
• Willingness to be assigned to any of the 26 state correctional facilities.
• Bilingual skills are welcome but not required.

Required skills

• Ability to follow security protocols and maintain order in a correctional environment.
• Basic understanding of custodial and safety procedures.
