About the role
The Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney's Office in South Dakota is seeking exceptional, motivated attorneys to prosecute federal crime on behalf of the United States. Assistant U.S. Attorneys are entrusted with prosecutorial discretion over robust caseloads and benefit from top‑tier training at the National Advocacy Center.
Key responsibilities
- Prosecute a wide range of federal offenses including drug trafficking, child exploitation, violent crime, illegal immigration, firearms offenses, national security matters, cybercrime, and white‑collar fraud.
- Handle Major Crimes Act violations in Indian Country such as murder, child sex abuse, rape, and other violent crimes.
- Partner with federal, state, local, and tribal law‑enforcement agencies to investigate crimes, present cases to a federal grand jury, and represent the United States in district court and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Required profile
- Licensed attorney with a strong commitment to public service and the ability to manage a robust caseload.
- Demonstrated capability to prosecute serious crimes, including those under the Major Crimes Act in Indian Country.
