About the role

We’re hiring Members of Technical Staff – a general research and engineering position at Build AI. If you have a compelling research bet you want to run on physical‑labor, video, or world‑model data, you’ll have access to massive datasets and a small, focused team to help you train and ship models.

Key responsibilities

• Run research bets on Build data: train, evaluate, ablate, and ship what works.
• Design and train models on in‑the‑wild video and physical‑labor data, identifying what is learned at scale and what is missing.
• Build the training and data pipelines you need (PyTorch, distributed training, dataset curation) without waiting for a platform team.
• Collaborate with the Head of Dataset & Quality and the Evals Lead to ensure results influence collection and evaluation, not just publications.
• Contribute to both research and engineering tasks within a team of fewer than 30 members.
• Design honest evaluation frameworks that assess generalization beyond simple training curves.

Required profile

• Experience training real models and a defendable research hypothesis.
• Proficiency in Python and a deep‑learning framework such as PyTorch.
• Interest in working with in‑the‑wild physical data rather than only academic splits.
• Ability to move between research questions and engineering implementation to complete experiments.
• Capability to operate independently on ambiguous, high‑impact directions.
