Warehouse Material Handler
Stadler US Inc. · San Jose
Job description
About the role
Stadler is looking for a motivated person to manage a one-person materials department for a DMU/ZEMU maintenance facility in San Jose, California. The role covers inventory, purchasing, receiving, storage, material forecasting and material control, with no direct reports. It suits a highly organized, self-motivated person who takes full ownership of the shop's inventory so that materials are available when needed for maintenance.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain accurate electronic inventory records in the customer-provided Trapeze system and monitor stock levels, ordering materials that are low, out of stock or near reorder points.
- Set and maintain minimum stock levels, reorder quantities and safety stock; review maintenance schedules, historical usage, supplier lead times and planned overhauls to forecast material needs.
- Generate purchase orders, track them through delivery and receipt, and coordinate with vendors on pricing, availability, lead times, back orders, damaged shipments and missing materials.
- Prepare monthly inventory reports and perform cycle counts and physical inventory checks to correct discrepancies.
- Receive, inspect, label and store incoming materials, issue them to maintenance personnel and document usage against vehicles, work orders or projects.
- Maintain records for serialized, warranty-controlled, repairable and critical components, and create bin locations, location sheets and shelving assignments.
- Keep the warehouse clean, safe and organized, and track RMAs, warranty claims and vendor returns.
- Provide management and maintenance staff with updates on shortages, lead times, open orders and upcoming material needs.
Required profile
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration or a related field preferred.
- Experience in rail, transit, vehicle maintenance, heavy equipment, manufacturing or a similar technical environment is preferred.
- Strong organizational, analytical, planning and recordkeeping skills, able to act before shortages affect maintenance operations.
- Effective communication with management, maintenance personnel, customers and vendors; self-motivated, dependable and able to work with limited supervision.
Required skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word and Outlook.
- Ability to generate purchase orders, inventory reports, usage summaries, forecasts and material-tracking spreadsheets.
