Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor – Tyler, TX

About the role

The Texas Workforce Commission is seeking a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (VRC) Trainee – Senior level to provide complex case management services that help individuals with disabilities achieve competitive, integrated employment. This position is based at the agency’s Tyler office and offers a career‑ladder path from trainee to senior counselor.

Key responsibilities

• Assist eligible individuals with disabilities in preparing for, obtaining, retaining, and advancing in competitive employment.
• Develop and maintain relationships with community referral sources, employers, schools, and other partners.
• Collect, review, and analyze medical, psychological, educational, and employment records to determine eligibility.
• Conduct assessments to identify client strengths, interests, and barriers, and match them with appropriate job opportunities.
• Create individualized rehabilitation plans, coordinate services, and monitor client progress.
• Maintain accurate case documentation using the electronic case management system.

Required profile

• Texas resident or willing to relocate to Texas.
• Ability to work independently with moderate to minimal supervision.
• Strong critical‑thinking and decision‑making skills.
• Eligibility to work without visa sponsorship.
