About the role
Hollins University’s Modern Languages Department seeks a full‑time Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish for a two‑year appointment beginning July 1, 2026. The position involves teaching a six‑class load each year and contributing to the department’s interdisciplinary mission.
Key responsibilities
- Teach three courses per semester, covering introductory to advanced Spanish language, literature, and culture.
- Develop and deliver courses that explore areas such as Postcolonial Central America, the Southern Cone, Golden Age and Colonial studies, Transatlantic studies, Women in the Arts and Technology, and Climate Justice and Human Rights.
- Supervise senior theses within the candidate’s area of expertise.
- Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to curriculum development.
Required profile
- Ph.D. in Spanish (or equivalent) completed by July 1, 2026.
- Strong commitment to teaching at a liberal‑arts institution.
- Ability to engage students from diverse backgrounds.
- Willingness to teach both language courses and interdisciplinary content.
