Vice President, Research and Innovation

About the role

Tarleton State University is seeking a Vice President of Research and Innovation to lead its Division of Research. The senior executive will shape the university’s research strategy, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and drive innovative initiatives across its multiple campuses and online platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive research and innovation agenda aligned with the university’s mission.
• Oversee research administration, grant acquisition, compliance, and reporting.
• Cultivate partnerships with industry, government, and community stakeholders to expand research impact.
• Lead the recruitment, development, and retention of faculty and staff engaged in research.
• Manage budgets, resources, and infrastructure supporting research activities.
• Promote a culture of inclusive excellence and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in research administration or innovation within higher education or a comparable research‑intensive organization.
• Demonstrated success in securing external funding and managing large‑scale research programs.
• Strong record of building strategic partnerships and fostering collaborative environments.
• Excellent communication and advocacy skills for representing the university at regional, national, and international forums.
