Workforce Instructor – Metallurgy & Manufacturing

About the role

The Workforce Instructor will lead Texas A&M University‑Kingsville’s METAL initiative, delivering hands‑on training in metallurgy, casting, forging and related manufacturing technologies. This grant‑funded position combines classroom instruction, laboratory work, and community outreach to build skilled talent for advanced manufacturing and the defense industrial base.

Key responsibilities

• Lead METAL Level 1 manufacturing bootcamps delivering classroom, laboratory and hands‑on training.
• Teach metallurgy fundamentals, ferrous and non‑ferrous metals, and various casting processes (sand, investment, lost‑foam).
• Instruct forging fundamentals, heat‑treatment, materials science, manufacturing safety, metal finishing and quality inspection.
• Demonstrate safe operation of casting equipment, furnaces, molds and hand tools.
• Assess participant performance through practical demonstrations, projects and competency‑based evaluations.
• Provide individualized coaching and academic support to ensure credential attainment.
• Collaborate with industry partners, school districts, community organizations and university faculty to expand workforce pathways.

Required profile

• Experience in metallurgy, metal casting, forging or related manufacturing fields.
• Proven ability to teach technical content to diverse audiences, including K‑12 and adult learners.
• Strong communication and coaching skills.
• Commitment to workforce development and community outreach.
