Veterinary Technician (Levels 1-3) – Community Practice

About the role

The Community Practice at LSU Veterinary Medicine provides preventative care, vaccinations, exams, elective surgery and behavior appointments for dogs and cats. Veterinary Technicians support patient assessment, client communication and a range of clinical procedures while collaborating with faculty and veterinary students.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with physical exams, obtain diagnostic samples (including venipuncture) and follow Fear Free restraint protocols.
• Perform client communications via phone, email and medical record updates.
• Analyze fecal, heartworm and urinalysis samples using in‑house laboratory equipment.
• Support general anesthesia (induction and maintenance) for surgical cases.
• Handle controlled substances according to policy, manage inventory and maintain exam/treatment rooms.
• Participate in blood bank duties and cover on‑call, holiday and emergency shifts in the Small Animal ICU/ER.

Required profile

• Active registration with the Louisiana Board of Veterinary Medicine as a Registered Veterinary Technician.
• Experience level varies by technician grade (1, 2 or 3) with at least one year of related experience preferred for higher grades.
• Fear Free Certified preferred.
