Veterinary Technician - Internal Medicine

About the role

VERG Brooklyn, a 24/7 emergency and specialty veterinary hospital, is looking for an experienced Veterinary Technician to join its Internal Medicine team. You will work closely with internists to care for patients with complex medical needs, assist with advanced procedures, provide hands-on nursing care and help clients understand their pet's treatment. The position follows a four-day, 10-hour shift schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Support appointments, diagnostic procedures, treatments and ongoing patient care.
• Assist with endoscopic and ultrasound procedures, including GI, nasal and airway scopes.
• Support advanced imaging and other diagnostic procedures.
• Place IV catheters and assist with endotracheal intubation and anesthetic induction.
• Prepare, clean and maintain specialized scope equipment.
• Monitor patients and provide attentive nursing care throughout their visit.
• Gather patient histories and communicate updates to the Internal Medicine team.
• Review discharge instructions with clients and teach at-home care such as subcutaneous fluids, insulin injections and feeding tube management.
• Maintain accurate medical records and coordinate care with other departments.

Required profile

• Strong veterinary nursing skills, close attention to detail and interest in complex medical cases.
• Internal Medicine or other specialty experience is preferred.
• Comfortable with IV catheter placement and assisting with anesthesia and advanced diagnostics.
• Clear, kind communication with clients and coworkers, organization under pressure, and ability to work independently and in a team.
