Vehicle Operator Senior - Scott Base, Antarctica

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Vehicle Operator Senior for the US Antarctic Program (USAP) at Scott Base, Antarctica. The role operates shuttle buses and vans, transports passengers and flight crew to and from the airfield, and acts as dispatcher and supervisor in the absence of the Vehicle Operations Supervisor.

Key responsibilities

• Adhere to the SafeUp program and USAP safety policies, and take part in safety briefings, hazard analyses and inspections
• Drive 11-14 passenger vans, Foremost Delta II and Foremost 56 passenger Terra Bus on varying road surfaces and in bad weather
• Transport passengers and flight crew to and from the airfield ramp, and provide taxi service on call
• Perform mechanical and fluid checks before and during operation, submit maintenance work orders and complete shuttle and taxi logs
• Use two-way radio according to prescribed procedures and etiquette
• Work on a rotating shift basis, including morning and evening shift-change transport for 109th AW personnel and shuttle service for Long Duration Balloon personnel
• Monitor flights and landing times, update flight status boards, and act as dispatcher, including "bellhop" service for flights
• Document employee performance and help create daily tasking schedules
• Provide light vehicle training and support other departments, and interact professionally with NSF, military and other agency officials

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• At least 6 months of experience driving shuttles, buses or similar equipment
• Valid US driver's license; US citizenship required for facility credentials at this location
• Medical, dental, drug screening and federal background checks completed
• Willingness to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods and to perform heavy lifting and outdoor work in extreme cold
• Willingness to join community programs such as housekeeping, recycling and safety objectives
