Vehicle Operations Supervisor

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Vehicle Operations Supervisor for its SafeUp program at an Antarctic research station. The supervisor oversees vehicle operations, training and scheduling for shuttle, taxi and dispatch services, and works closely with the National Science Foundation and other agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee training for employees on operating procedures and safety requirements, including transportation to and from airfields, on-call taxi, bellhop and taxi services, and dispatch functions.
• Create and maintain working schedules for vehicle operators, rotate personnel between tasks (shuttle operator, taxi driver, dispatcher) and allocate vans to departments.
• Train volunteer Recreation Department drivers, Long Duration Balloon personnel and vessel operations personnel.
• Coordinate with other departments and agencies on shuttle and shift changes, and post shuttle schedules at runways, the town center and Scott Base.
• Evaluate and document employee performance throughout the season and conduct end-of-season evaluations.
• Ensure operators follow safe practices and road etiquette, and operate shuttle vehicles in inclement weather with passenger safety in mind.
• Transport passengers and flight crew to and from the airfield ramp while obeying airfield safety rules.
• Monitor vehicles for preventive maintenance, schedule service, and perform and document mechanical and fluid checks before and during operation.
• Maintain shuttle and taxi logs, compile data for weekly and monthly reports, and communicate daily with operators and Antarctic Terminal Operations staff.
• Dispatch tasking based on flight schedules, passenger needs and taxi requests, and provide light and large passenger vehicle training to other departments.
• Perform job hazard analyses, work center inspections and safety reports, and handle confidential matters in line with ASC policy.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least one year of vehicle and/or equipment operating experience, including six months with large capacity passenger vehicles and/or over-the-road tractor-trailers.
• One year of leadership and/or supervisory experience.
• Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods, with medical, dental, drug screening, background check and federal background check clearances.
• US citizenship required for facility credentials at this location.
• Ability to lift and move items up to the safety regulation maximum, climb in and out of equipment, crawl and work outdoors in extreme cold.

Required skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and good multi-tasking and organizational skills.
• Computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs.
• Preferred: CDL with passenger and/or air brake endorsement, and at least one year of dispatching experience.
