Utility Plant Operator – Wastewater Treatment Plant

About the role

The Utility Plant Operator supports the safe and efficient operation of a municipal wastewater treatment facility. Working on‑site, you will monitor, adjust and maintain treatment processes, ensuring compliance with technical codes and environmental regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor SCADA control systems, gauges, meters and electronic panels.
• Collect, test and analyze wastewater samples for water quality, chemical saturation and biosolids levels using approved laboratory methods.
• Assist with the operation of pumps, compressors, valves and other electrical/electronic equipment to regulate flow and treatment processes.
• Record readings, maintain manual and computerized shift logs, and report any anomalies to supervisors.
• Perform minor preventive maintenance on treatment equipment and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
• Monitor physical security through regular inspections and remote camera systems.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED with at least one year of operations/maintenance experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Texas driver’s license.
• Class C Wastewater license from TCEQ; must obtain Class B license within nine months.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lb and perform moderate physical work.
• Full manual dexterity and visual acuity.
