Utility Line Technician – Water Distribution & Sewer

About the role

The City of Fort Worth Water Department seeks a Utility Line Technician to support 24/7 field operations, responding to utility locate tickets, water‑quality issues, and emergency calls. The role combines underground infrastructure locating, water‑quality monitoring, and hands‑on maintenance of water and sewer systems.

Key responsibilities

• Locate and mark underground water and wastewater lines using specialized utility locating equipment and GIS data.
• Investigate and resolve water‑quality concerns, perform routine and corrective flushing of mains, and operate automatic flushing devices.
• Conduct CCTV video assessments, smoke testing, and manhole inspections of the wastewater collection system.
• Install, monitor, and maintain flow‑monitoring equipment and record accurate documentation of work performed.
• Provide customer support, troubleshoot issues, and complete required reports and forms.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• At least two years of experience in water or sewer utilities.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to obtain a TCEQ Water Distribution D license within 12 months of hire.
• Pass physical, drug screen, and background checks.
