Trauma Registrar

About the role

Join Cleveland Clinic Health System at Hillcrest Hospital and work with a dedicated team of caregivers. As a Trauma Registrar you will abstract, code and enter medical record data for trauma patients following American College of Surgeons and Ohio state guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Identify patient records that meet trauma registry criteria and abstract information from charts.
• Assign ICD‑9/ICD‑10 codes, Injury Severity Scores (ISS), Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) codes, E‑Codes and other trauma scores.
• Enter and validate data in the trauma registry, ensuring submission deadlines for state and national organizations are met.
• Perform audit activities, report generation and assist with trauma center verification preparation.

Required profile

• Complete 8 hours of trauma registry continuing education annually.
• Obtain required certifications (AAAM AIS, trauma registry, ICD‑10) within one year of hire.
• Associate degree in Health Care or equivalent experience (minimum two years) with medical terminology knowledge.
• Preferred certifications: Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR), Registered Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).

Required skills

• Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record system.
• Advanced Excel skills for data handling.
• Knowledge of ICD‑9, ICD‑10 coding, AIS and ISS scoring.
