Third Assistant Engineer – US Flag Vessel

About the role

Chevron USA - Marine is accepting online applications for a Third Assistant Engineer on one of its US Flag fleet of vessels. Applications close on November 29, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. PST. The general guideline for vessel assignment length is 75 days for licensed officers, with vacation accruing at 30 days for each 30 days of work.

Key responsibilities

• Handle engine department watch standing duties, including supervision and control of the vessel's machinery and equipment.
• Oversee loading of engine department stores, bunkers and water.
• Ensure engine room personnel follow PPE requirements and safety instructions.
• Supervise and assist unlicensed personnel (machinist and utility).
• Maintain and troubleshoot engine room equipment, including pneumatics, hydraulics, mechanical and electrical systems.
• Perform duties required by STCW, ISM and ISPS conventions and Chevron procedures to protect the vessel, crew and cargo.
• Attend required STCW, ISM, ISPS and Chevron classes to keep certificates of competency valid.
• Take part in company programs such as Behavior Based Safety, near miss reporting and Job Safety Analysis.

Required profile

• Current USCG license for motor vessels of any horsepower, Merchant Mariner Document, passport and TWIC.
• One year of service as a licensed engineer on vessels requiring unlimited horsepower.
• Working knowledge of USCG and international regulations such as MARPOL, SOLAS and ISGOTT.
• Advanced Firefighting Certificate, Basic Safety Training, VPDSD and Tankerman endorsement.
