Senior Electrical Engineer - Modular Data Center R&D

About the role

A leading US hyperscale data center developer is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer for its Modular R&D team in Austin, Texas (on-site). You will design power distribution, switchgear integration and controls systems for modular and prefabricated data center units that must deploy quickly, at scale and perform reliably from day one. This is not a design consultancy role: you work inside the developer, alongside structural, mechanical and controls engineers, in a fast-paced, hands-on R&D environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design electrical systems for modular data center units covering power distribution, switchgear integration, UPS, generator paralleling and controls interfaces
• Develop electrical schematics, one-line diagrams and construction and fabrication documentation
• Collaborate with mechanical, structural and controls engineers through design and product development
• Review and validate designs against NEC, NFPA 70 and NFPA 110 standards
• Coordinate with equipment OEMs and fabrication partners so designs are manufacturable and meet performance requirements
• Support prototyping, factory testing and commissioning
• Help develop internal electrical design standards for the modular product line

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical Engineering
• 4 to 10 years of electrical engineering experience with data center, power generation or industrial electrical design background
• Experience in a cross-discipline engineering environment
• PE license a plus but not required for this R&D role

Required skills

• Power distribution systems, including medium voltage, switchgear, UPS and standby generation
• Familiarity with NEC, NFPA 70 and NFPA 110
• Good to have: data center design experience at a design firm, EPC or OEM, switchgear manufacturer experience (Eaton, Vertiv, Schneider Electric), modular construction background, generator paralleling and critical power redundancy design
