Process Design Engineer

About the role

Chevron is hiring a Process Design Engineer in Ames, Iowa, to support projects at its biodiesel manufacturing facilities in the Midwest and on the West Coast. The engineer delivers projects while ensuring the technical integrity of the design, leading cross-disciplinary design work so that projects are completed safely, on time, cost-effectively and to the desired quality. Projects range from $50k to $2.5 million in total installed costs.

Key responsibilities

• Lead development of Piping and Instrument Diagrams, Process Flow Diagrams, General Arrangement drawings, equipment specifications and other design documents.
• Complete design calculations for equipment, piping, relief devices and other engineering calculations.
• Take part in Process Hazard Analysis and model reviews depending on project stage and complexity.
• Identify the relevant engineering standards and internal and external resources for each project.
• Oversee third-party engineering partners when needed and work with project managers to engage stakeholders and internal teams such as process engineering, HSE, operations, maintenance and reliability.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
• Preferred: understanding of chemical processes and equipment and their interaction, and biodiesel/renewable diesel production experience.
• Preferred: more than 2 years of experience in oil and gas complex process facilities (refining, chemical plants, LNG, etc.).
• 25%-50% travel may be required; expatriate assignments are not considered.
