Technical Laboratory Coordinator

About the role

The Technical Laboratory Coordinator supports the Mechanical Engineering department by educating and supervising students in the machine shop and rapid prototyping studio, primarily during evenings and weekends.

Key responsibilities

• Lead training sessions on manual shop equipment, CNC machines, and related software.
• Provide technical assistance to students, staff, and faculty in the machine shop and rapid prototyping studio.
• Fabricate, maintain, and repair metal parts, tools, and equipment to close tolerances.
• Manufacture parts from steel, aluminum, or other materials based on drawings, prints, or verbal instructions.
• Support laboratory operations and perform equipment maintenance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• At least three years of related experience in laboratory operations.
• Willingness to work primarily evenings and weekends.
• Ability to work with college‑age students and demonstrate patience.

Required skills

• Operation of CNC machines and manual shop equipment.
• Metal fabrication and machining (gears, threads, shafts, jigs, fixtures).
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and sketches.
• Basic mathematical computations.
• Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet applications.
