System Engineer – Dust Mitigation for Space Systems

About the role

Join the Advanced Projects section of the Engineering Department supporting NASA’s JETS II contract. As a System Engineer – Dust Mitigation, you will work on Artemis mission development, focusing on preventing and controlling lunar dust contamination for EVA tools, suits, and crew cabins.

Key responsibilities

• Develop plans and technologies for dust mitigation, control, and management in partnership with NASA’s Human Landing System (HLS) partners.
• Conduct ground‑based testing using lunar simulants and simulated space environments in JSC labs.
• Assess provider progress, hardware/software adequacy, and produce monthly Insight Reports.
• Review and contribute to HLS program documentation and support program forums, boards, and milestone reviews.
• Maintain and update the Discipline Lead Insight Plan for Dust Mitigation within the Crew Compartment Office.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• 2–5 years of experience in hardware analysis, risk analysis, or related engineering fields.
• Experience working in a lab environment with development test and evaluation of engineering hardware.
• U.S. citizenship or permanent residency and ability to pass a U.S. government background investigation.
