Swim Instructor I & II

About the role

The YMCA of Greater Boston seeks enthusiastic Swim Instructors to teach swim lessons under the YMCA of the USA model. This part‑time, hourly position works primarily with children and requires active lifeguard certifications.

Key responsibilities

• Provide swim lessons, start and end classes on time, and maintain accurate attendance and skill completion records.
• Communicate children’s progress to parents regularly and ensure safety by keeping all swimmers within arm’s reach.
• Adhere to pool rules, emergency procedures, and YMCA policies; report absences and student attendance issues.
• Prepare equipment before class, store it promptly after, and use pool space efficiently.

Required profile

• Active lifeguard certification (YMCA, Red Cross, etc.) and ability to scan the pool visually.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lb, and interact verbally with members.
• Commitment to teach an entire session with minimal absenteeism.

Required skills

• CPR, First Aid, and O2 certification.
• YMCA Swim Lessons (YSL) certification (preferred) and WSI certification.
