Survey Field Technician - Instrument Operator

About the role

Cardinal Civil Resources is seeking a Survey Field Technician – Instrument Operator to join its team. This entry‑level position is ideal for recent high school or college graduates interested in pipeline and construction surveying, offering training on the latest survey equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain total stations, 3D scanners, GPS receivers, drones and other survey instruments safely and efficiently.
• Perform control, topographic and pipeline surveys as the Instrument Man/Rodman for one‑ to three‑person crews.
• Read and interpret engineering plans, construction documents, and site maps.
• Take accurate field notes, stake and mark survey points, and clean/maintain equipment and vehicles.
• Travel to various job sites and work in all weather conditions.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent with strong math, geometry and trigonometry background.
• 0‑5 years of land surveying experience or related field work.
• Valid driver’s license with insurable record and reliable transportation.
• Willingness to travel daily and work in inclement weather.
• Ability to lift up to 80 lb and meet physical demands of field work.

Required skills

• Proficiency with total stations, GPS receivers and data collectors.
• Experience operating drones and 3D scanning equipment.
• Ability to read and analyze site plans, blueprints and maps.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in measurements.
