Surgical Technologist – CCFSR Operating Room (OR)

About the role

The Surgical Technologist joins Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital’s operating rooms, providing essential support to surgeons and nurses throughout the peri‑operative process. This PRN position works varied shifts, ensuring sterile technique and patient safety during surgeries.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain sterile fields, set up equipment, and pass instruments to the surgeon during procedures.
• Count, document, and decontaminate instruments and supplies, ensuring compliance with AORN guidelines.
• Assist with patient positioning, draping, and specimen collection while adhering to universal precautions.
• Communicate intra‑operative information and update surgeon preference lists as needed.

Required profile

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program (CAAHEP or ABHES) or equivalent military training.
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross.
• Ability to lift 50 lb unassisted and heavier items with assistance; physical stamina for fast‑paced OR environment.
• Two years of experience in a multi‑disciplinary acute‑care operating room preferred.

Required skills

• Surgical technology knowledge and sterile technique.
• Instrument handling, counting, and decontamination.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Familiarity with AORN peri‑operative standards.
