Surgery/Special Unit Coordinator – DDI

About the role

The Surgery/Special Unit Coordinator supports the DDSI Bariatric Surgery‑Digestive Disease Institute by ensuring smooth patient flow, accurate data entry, and timely communication among patients, physicians, and staff. This full‑time, daytime position offers a stable schedule with no evenings, weekends, or holidays.

Key responsibilities

• Validate and capture patient demographic and physician information in the master patient index.
• Identify patients needing financial counseling and coordinate appropriate payment processes.
• Tri­age appointments based on diagnosis, patient preferences, and physician specialty.
• Schedule intra‑ and inter‑departmental services per physician orders and ensure correct CPT coding.
• Serve as liaison with the admitting office for hospital reservations, updates, and cancellations.
• Provide patients and families with detailed instructions, directions, and resource information.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED.
• 2 years of related experience in patient registration, billing, insurance processing, or appointment scheduling, OR 3 years of concierge/customer‑service experience.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology and basic CPT/ICD coding preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Experience using computerized scheduling and billing systems.
• Strong PC literacy and ability to navigate PC‑based software.
