Substitute ESOL Teacher – Boston

About the role

The YMCA of Greater Boston’s International Learning Center is seeking a long‑term substitute teacher to deliver ESOL, Career Advancement, and English for Immigrant Entrepreneurs classes to adult learners from diverse backgrounds.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, standards‑aligned lessons using the Massachusetts English Language Proficiency Standards.
• Adapt and select materials, apps, and web resources for Google Classroom and Zoom.
• Assess student progress through formative and summative evaluations.
• Collaborate with Education and Career Advisors to support learners’ personal, educational, and career goals.
• Maintain accurate attendance, weekly lesson plans, and bi‑annual progress reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (education background preferred).
• TESOL/TEFL/TESL certification preferred.
• Eligibility to work in the US and sensitivity to socio‑economic and ethnic minority issues.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and classroom‑management abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Proficiency with Google Suite (Docs, Drive, Classroom).
• Experience using Zoom for virtual instruction.
