Part‑time ESOL Teacher/Advisor

About the role

The YMCA of Greater Boston’s International Learning Center is seeking a part‑time ESOL Teacher/Advisor to substitute teach adult ESOL, Career Advancement, and English for Immigrant Entrepreneurs classes. This long‑term substitute position involves both in‑person and hybrid instruction using Zoom and Google Classroom.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, standards‑aligned ESOL lessons that integrate academic and employment skills.
• Survey adult learner goals and tailor coursework to be student‑centered.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive classroom environment and manage classroom dynamics.
• Select and adapt materials, apps, and web resources for Google Classroom and Zoom.
• Collaborate with Education and Career Advisors to track student progress toward personal, educational, and career goals.
• Conduct formative and summative assessments and report progress twice a year.
• Keep accurate attendance records, document weekly lesson plans, and attend teacher meetings.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree required; education background preferred.
• TESOL, TEFL, or TESL certification preferred.
• Eligible to live and work in the United States.
• Sensitivity to socio‑economic and ethnic minority issues.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and classroom‑management skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Proficiency with Google Suite (Docs, Drive, Classroom).
• Experience using Zoom for remote instruction.
• Comfort with web‑based file storage such as SharePoint.
