Music Program Director

About the role

St. Mark’s School seeks an imaginative, energetic, and collaborative musician‑educator to lead its music program. The Music Program Director will teach, strengthen programming, and unite the community through performance while participating fully in residential school life.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Arts Department colleagues to expand music offerings and align with the school’s mission.
• Teach academic courses and ensembles such as choir, jazz band, orchestra, music theory, and studio.
• Organize concerts, recitals, visiting artist programs, and support student‑led music‑making.
• Mentor student musicians and facilitate participation in District, All‑State, and other external opportunities.
• Partner with Chaplains to provide musical leadership for chapel services and special traditions.
• Oversee private lessons, supervise staff, manage budget, instruments, equipment, facilities, and logistics.
• Collaborate with Admissions, Advancement, and Communications to showcase student musicians.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree; advanced study in music or related field preferred.
• Accomplished musicianship with experience teaching adolescents from diverse backgrounds.
• Experience directing ensembles and organizing performances.
• Strong organizational and collaborative abilities; supervisory experience preferred.
• Commitment to inclusive teaching and full participation in boarding school life.
