Instructor or Assistant Professor of English (Fiction, Creative Writing)

About the role

Texas A&M University‑Victoria seeks a full‑time Instructor (MFA) or tenure‑track Assistant Professor (PhD) to join its English department, focusing on fiction and creative writing. The appointment begins in Fall 2027 and involves teaching, mentorship, and scholarly activity within a vibrant, small‑program environment.

Key responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate courses including fiction workshops, composition, professional writing, and potentially literature or MFA courses.
• Maintain regular office hours, provide student‑centered instruction, and mentor undergraduate writers, especially first‑generation students.
• Participate in curriculum development, program planning, and departmental service activities.
• Maintain an active agenda of scholarly, creative, or professional work and uphold a consistent campus presence.

Required profile

• Doctoral degree (Assistant Professor) or MFA (Instructor) completed by August 15 2027 in English, creative writing, or a related field.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching and evidence of scholarly, creative, or professional activities.
• Willingness to teach service courses such as composition and professional writing.
• Preference for candidates specializing in fiction; experience in creative nonfiction, genre fiction, publishing, or editing is a plus.
