Student Worker – Counseling Office Assistant (Federal Work Study)

About the role

The Department of Counseling at East Texas A&M University‑Commerce is seeking a Federal Work‑Study student worker to provide professional front‑office support. The role involves handling inquiries by phone, email, and in‑person while maintaining confidentiality and accurate student information.

Key responsibilities

• Answer telephone calls, respond to emails, and greet visitors, directing them to appropriate staff.
• Maintain and update documents, spreadsheets, and filing systems using Microsoft Office and cloud storage platforms.
• Assist with copying, faxing, mailing, and other routine office tasks.
• Collaborate with the supervisor and other department members to ensure smooth operations.

Required profile

• Current Texas A&M University‑Commerce student (undergraduate or graduate) with an active work‑study permit.
• Ability to multitask, handle confidential information, and work cooperatively with others.
• Must be able to sit for extended periods during scheduled shifts.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Experience using cloud platforms such as OneDrive and Google Drive.
• Ability to operate and troubleshoot electronic office equipment and computers.
• Comfort with using social media platforms to promote department activities.
