Staff Product Manager, Card Schemes

About the role

Airwallex, the AI-native financial operating system for global commerce, is hiring a Staff Product Manager for its card schemes product. You will lead high-impact product initiatives across the card payments lifecycle, helping businesses collect credit card and other payments from consumers worldwide. The role is based in the San Francisco office three days a week.

Key responsibilities

• Expand coverage of card schemes and markets, working with partners such as Visa and Mastercard so merchants can accept major card brands globally.
• Improve the competitiveness of the card payments infrastructure by adopting new industry standards and partnering with Machine Learning to raise payment success rates.
• Build stable foundations that scale with business growth, reduce manual effort and minimise the risk of service interruptions for merchants.
• Own the product roadmap and drive initiatives from ideation through launch, working with Engineering, Design, Commercial, Legal and Compliance.

Required profile

• 8+ years of professional experience, ideally in a high-growth environment.
• Experience leading complex product initiatives from ideation through launch.
• Strong understanding of the card payments lifecycle, including scheme connections, authorisations, captures, refunds and reconciliation.
• Ability to engage in architectural discussions with Engineering and explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Strong communication skills and experience working cross-functionally with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to structure complex problems and base decisions on data and first-principles thinking.
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree or above, preferably with Engineering or Computer Science coursework; deep expertise in payment processing, including direct Visa and Mastercard integrations, preferably on the acquiring side; experience with card schemes, payment standards or acquiring infrastructure; experience partnering with Machine Learning teams; experience in cross-cultural, globally distributed teams.
