Staff Embedded Software Engineer

About the role

Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies are seeking a Staff Body Controls Engineer to lead the development and integration of advanced control systems for vehicle functions such as closures, lighting, seating, and accessories. The role combines deep technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, mentoring junior engineers and driving project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Lead architecture and development of automotive lighting control systems, including advanced feature sets.
• Define high‑level functional specifications, validation strategies, and calibration plans for vehicle features.
• Create and manage comprehensive test cases for Unit, SIL, and HIL environments.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to develop simulation models and ensure software robustness.
• Oversee multiple projects, manage resources, budgets, and prioritize issues based on impact.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote continuous improvement within the team.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering (Master’s preferred).
• 7+ years of experience with automotive control systems and proven project leadership.
• Strong knowledge of embedded systems architecture, RTOS, and control theory (PID, compensator design).
• Excellent communication, leadership, and decision‑making skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% as needed.
