About the role
Seaside School is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher for grades 3‑5 at its North Campus. The teacher will guide students with mild to moderate disabilities toward curriculum goals, collaborating with support staff and families.
Key responsibilities
- Assess student abilities and develop individualized teaching plans.
- Adapt learning materials to meet diverse needs.
- Track and reflect on student progress.
- Monitor behavior and implement appropriate interventions.
- Design engaging activities such as drawing and drama to teach skills.
- Manage classroom crises and resolve conflicts.
- Prepare students for transition to the next grade.
- Communicate student performance and concerns to parents.
- Teach groups of students with mild or moderate disabilities.
- Coach and mentor other professionals working with disabled children.
- Collaborate with counselors, speech therapists, and other support staff to create holistic intervention plans.
- Develop and modify Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Adjust existing curriculum to align with each student’s learning requirements.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Eligibility for Florida Department of Education certification (PreK‑3 or K‑6 Exceptional Student Education endorsement).
- Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent time‑management and organizational abilities.
- Ability to work beyond regular hours for grading and lesson preparation.
- Capacity to manage multiple tasks and student groups effectively.
Required skills
- Proficiency with word processing software.
- Proficiency with spreadsheet software.
- Experience using database applications.
- Ability to create presentations using presentation software.
