Software Engineer – NCRC Range Modernization

About the role

By Light Professional IT Services LLC is seeking a Software Engineer to join the NCRC Range Modernization (RM) scrum team. The role focuses on developing, testing, and supporting software that powers cyber training and simulation capabilities for defense and federal customers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain software within an agile scrum team for NCRC products.
• Resolve open program problem reports (PPRs) linked to the assigned product.
• Create unit tests and support integration testing activities.
• Perform engineering tasks to modify and sustain program baseline architectures.
• Provide occasional guidance to junior developers.
• Support cyber‑range capability assessments, evaluations, and prototype development.
• Deliver remote site support for setup, configuration, and delivery tasks.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree optional).
• Minimum two years of relevant software development experience.
• Strong knowledge of agile development practices, operating systems, networking, and enterprise IT concepts.
• Effective communication of technical and programmatic issues.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Top Secret clearance eligibility.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python, Java, and C/C++.
• Scripting experience with PowerShell and Bash.
• Linux operating system expertise.
• Familiarity with CI tools such as Jenkins.
• Database knowledge (MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, NoSQL).
• Version control using SVN and Git.
• Experience with project logistics and controlled engineering baselines.
