Software Engineer III - Framework

About the role

ExtraHop builds high-performance network detection and monitoring systems that run at scale across complex protocols and data volumes, written mainly in C and C++. As a Software Engineer III on the Framework team, you will drive architectural and technical decisions, lead the design and execution of complex engineering initiatives and raise technical standards. You will work on performance improvements, the evolution of the data storage architecture and early steps toward a cloud-enabled model.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain high-performance services for the core Framework systems, owning moderately complex to complex features with limited guidance
• Implement and enhance protocol support across networking layers
• Take part in technical design discussions, architecture decisions and write clear technical documentation
• Follow agile processes (sprint planning, code reviews, retrospectives) and hold a high bar for code quality and test coverage
• Work with product and cross-functional partners to define roadmaps, break down problems and balance technical debt with delivery
• Diagnose and resolve production and performance issues independently, with root-cause analysis and preventive measures
• Help modernize the platform, evaluate new technologies, and take part in on-call rotations and observability improvements

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM field, Computer Science, Engineering or a related degree
• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems at scale
• Proven ability to build performance-critical systems and debug complex issues (e.g. with gdb, core dumps, performance tools)
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals and ability to decompose complex problems
• Self-starter who can work independently and collaborate well

Required skills

• Strong expertise in C and C++
• Linux systems development (multithreading, memory management, IPC)
• Nice to have: network protocols (HTTP, SMB, Kerberos, TLS), cloud platforms (AWS preferred), observability and scripting (Python)
