Software Engineer III - AI/ML

About the role

ExtraHop builds Network Detection and Response (NDR) solutions that give organizations visibility into cyber threats, vulnerabilities and network performance issues. As a Software Engineer III, you will join a collaborative engineering team to build a scalable, secure and highly available platform, delivering customer-facing AI/ML features that help security teams stop threats. The role is open to remote US workers and to candidates based in Seattle.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, test and maintain software components supporting AI/ML models, agentic processes and data pipelines.
• Contribute to the monitoring, evaluation and improvement of algorithms used in behavioral detectors.
• Take part in agile development, code reviews and technical discussions.
• Work with senior engineers, data scientists and threat researchers to integrate AI/ML features into the product architecture.
• Build well-scoped features and technical improvements with limited guidance from seniors.
• Write clean, maintainable code, help reduce technical debt and document features and engineering guides.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 4+ years of professional software development experience, preferably in backend, cloud or security systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills, self-starter attitude and ability to work independently with limited guidance.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Required skills

• Solid Python with strong general programming fundamentals.
• Version control (Git) and agile practices.
• Containerization (Kubernetes, Docker).
• Preferred: machine learning, Go, AWS cloud services, Terraform, PostgreSQL, API development and NDR tools.
