Software Engineer I

About the role

The Software Engineer I is a core member of the Oceaneering Technologies (OTECH) group, developing unique underwater systems for US Navy and DoD customers. You will learn OTECH processes, apply software engineering best practices, and grow your technical skill set under the guidance of a software program lead.

Key responsibilities

• Learn and apply the software development lifecycle and write software at the CSU level.
• Develop software that adheres to defined architecture and create/maintain project CDRLs, including requirements, documentation, unit testing, safety testing, and qualification testing.
• Support software testing on the factory floor, offsite, and offshore, and interface with non‑software teammates for issue resolution.
• Prepare reports, present results to team members, and manage demanding schedules that may require occasional work outside normal hours.

Required profile

• BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
• US citizenship and ability to obtain a DoD security clearance.
• Strong interest in robotics, especially underwater robotics.

Required skills

• Programming languages: C, C++, C#, Java (and optionally Python or other scripting languages).
• Experience with microprocessors, single‑board computers, Linux OS, and bare‑metal firmware.
• Knowledge of communication protocols such as UDP, multicast, TCP, serial, SPI, I2C, CAN.
• Familiarity with development tools/frameworks like React, ROS, Qt, Unity.
