R&D Software Engineer

About the role

Excelitas Technologies is seeking an experienced R&D Software Engineer to support and enhance software used in thin‑film optical coating manufacturing. You will work closely with engineering teams to deliver reliable, well‑documented solutions that improve production efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and develop software that interfaces thin‑film coating equipment with production databases.
• Collaborate with the Thin Film Engineering team to incorporate feedback into current and future software deployments.
• Participate in peer reviews for software designs and implementations.
• Support a formal software development lifecycle, ensuring robust and sustainable solutions.
• Create documentation for software users, including engineers, production technicians, and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• STEM‑based bachelor’s degree.
• 5+ years of professional programming experience in C#.
• Ability to work with internal customers to develop design specifications and deliver software applications.

Required skills

• C# programming with WPF, ADO.NET, Entity Framework, WCF.
• MS SQL database design and T‑SQL querying.
• Advanced C# techniques: multi‑threading, asynchronous programming, MVVM, Windows Services.
• Web application development with MVC, Web API, and optional client‑side JavaScript.
• Version control using Git/GitHub with Visual Studio and VS Code.
• Real‑time machine control programming and familiarity with RS232/RS485 protocols.
• Additional experience in C++, Python, device firmware, SCADA, and vacuum systems is helpful.
