Senior Thermal Engineer – Hypersonic Air Vehicles

About the role

The Senior Thermal Engineer will lead thermal design and analysis for unmanned hypersonic air vehicles, ensuring robust performance across all flight phases. This position works closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated thermal solutions for demanding flight environments.

Key responsibilities

• Develop thermal system architectures, select materials, and perform thermal analysis using CFD and FEA tools.
• Conduct transient and coupled thermal‑structural analyses for conceptual to detailed design stages.
• Plan, execute, and analyze ground and flight thermal tests in specialized facilities.
• Create first‑principles models and scripts in MATLAB/Python to support design decisions.
• Present thermal status at internal and customer reviews and prepare formal documentation.

Required profile

• MS or higher in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or Applied Physics with a focus on heat transfer.
• 5+ years of aerospace thermal engineering experience on rocket, aircraft, or missile programs.
• Ability to obtain and hold a U.S. Top Secret security clearance.

Required skills

• CFD tools: STAR‑CCM+, ANSYS Fluent.
• FEA thermal solvers and thermal‑structural coupling (NASTRAN, Abaqus, ANSYS Mechanical).
• Programming in MATLAB and Python.
• CAD: SolidWorks or Siemens NX.
• Ground test instrumentation, data acquisition, and thermal data analysis.
