Senior Technical Product Manager, Applied AI
Mattel · El Segundo
Job description
About the role
Mattel Digital Studios (MDS) is a cross-functional division that uses digital innovation to expand Mattel's brands into digital gaming, interactive experiences and emerging technologies. Its tech organization builds scalable systems, tools and platforms, and the Applied AI function sits at the intersection of product innovation and technical execution. As Senior Technical Product Manager, Applied AI, you will define, build and scale AI-powered tools, workflows and decision-support systems, reporting to the MDS Technical Director.
Key responsibilities
- Own the applied AI roadmap from pitch to production, managing a portfolio of Quick Wins, Efficiency Gains and Strategic Bets, moving strong proofs-of-concept into pilots and broader rollout.
- Identify friction in cross-functional workflows and turn it into prioritized AI solutions, with clear requirements, success metrics, adoption targets and iteration plans.
- Build prototypes, lightweight apps, automations and decision-support tools using modern AI platforms, and partner with engineering, platform teams and external vendors to productize and scale them.
- Bridge Product, Engineering, Operations and Creative teams, securing leadership buy-in and enabling teams with reusable tools, playbooks and training.
- Manage adoption risks such as data quality, model accuracy, hallucinations and brand integrity, setting guardrails with the Office of AI and consulting legal and privacy teams.
- Report portfolio impact regularly on productivity, quality, cost and effectiveness.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Product Design or a related field (Master's preferred).
- 5-8+ years of experience in product management, engineering or technical roles, with a track record of shipping internal tools, automations and operational improvements.
- Experience taking AI solutions from prototype through productization and rollout, including stakeholder alignment and measuring business impact.
- Cross-functional experience with production, engineering, design, creative and business stakeholders.
Required skills
- Hands-on experience building AI workflows and automations with LLM APIs, multimodal models, agent frameworks and orchestration tools (e.g. OpenAI, Claude, LangChain, Python pipelines, Retool, low-code automation).
- Strong communication and storytelling skills, and the ability to work in ambiguity.
The pay range is $168,000 to $210,000 annually, depending on location, skills and experience.
