Senior Technical Accounting Analyst

About the role

Impulse Space is looking for a Senior Technical Accounting Analyst to join its Finance team in Redondo Beach. The role focuses on evaluating customer contracts and ensuring proper accounting treatment under U.S. GAAP, especially revenue recognition under ASC 606, within a complex Aerospace & Defense environment. It also supports general ledger work, the monthly close and cross-functional collaboration with Program Management, Contracts, Operations and Finance.

Key responsibilities

• Review customer contracts and analyze performance obligations, transaction price, billing milestones, acceptance criteria, contract modifications and variable consideration
• Evaluate over-time versus point-in-time revenue recognition and measures of progress, and assess milestone-based billing against accounts receivable
• Partner with Contracts, Program Management and Legal to review new contracts and amendments before execution, and prepare technical accounting memorandums
• Research and interpret accounting guidance for complex or non-routine transactions
• Monitor billing milestones, resolve discrepancies between contract terms, revenue recognition and invoicing, and help analyze contract assets, liabilities, unbilled receivables and deferred revenue
• Support monthly, quarterly and annual close, maintain general ledger accounts, review balance sheet accounts, and support internal and external audits
• Contribute to accounting policies, procedures and internal controls, and identify process improvements
• Provide technical accounting guidance and training, and help with ERP or financial system enhancements

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and experience applying ASC 606 to complex contracts
• Experience reviewing customer contracts and evaluating performance obligations, variable consideration and contract modifications
• Excellent written and verbal communication, able to explain technical accounting to non-finance stakeholders
• Preferred: CPA license or progress toward it, public accounting background, aerospace and defense experience, and experience with long-term, milestone-based contracts
