Senior Software Engineer, Platform Security & Reliability

About the role

Farther, a rapidly growing RIA combining expert advisors with technology for a tailored wealth management experience, is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its Infrastructure team. The team owns the AWS foundation the rest of the engineering builds on, and this is a backend platform role with a security mandate. It is a hybrid position based in New York.

Key responsibilities

• Own how the platform is accessed: API authentication and authorization, IAM policy design, account and network boundaries, and secrets management with least privilege and traceable grants.
• Own data protection: storage structure and segmentation, encryption at rest and in transit, KMS key management, and retention and access controls on sensitive data.
• Build proactive security and health monitoring with AWS-native tooling (GuardDuty, Security Hub, Config, CloudTrail), alerts on access anomalies and policy drift, and SLIs, SLOs and dashboards with CloudWatch, X-Ray and RUM.
• Maintain compliance-grade controls: documented standards, automated evidence collection, and audit logging and traceability for accredited compliance reviews.
• Design and build shared platform services, internal tooling and reusable infrastructure patterns on core AWS building blocks (ECS, Lambda, SQS/SNS, RDS, S3), secure by default.
• Review system designs for access control, trust boundaries and blast radius, and drive fixes when they fall short.
• Build and maintain infrastructure as code that scales with a growing engineering team, and set platform, security and reliability standards.

Required profile

• 8-15+ years of software engineering experience with strong backend and platform depth.
• Proven cloud security ownership: audited and hardened a real AWS environment's API access, IAM, network boundaries, storage, encryption and secrets, with an audit trail.
• Infrastructure as code as a default mode (CDK, Terraform or CloudFormation).
• Real monitoring and alerting practice, including SLIs/SLOs and using telemetry to find problems early.
• Fluent daily use of AI coding tools, with strong written communication and documentation.

Required skills

• Deep, hands-on AWS knowledge
• TypeScript, Python or Scala
• Bonus: AWS Certified Security - Specialty or Solutions Architect - Professional, threat modeling, pen-test remediation, SRE background, PostgreSQL operations, fintech or regulated industry experience
