Senior Software Engineer, Flight + Plan

About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer on Quindar’s Flight + Plan team, you will lead the design and development of mission‑planning systems that support real‑world spacecraft operations. You will work primarily in Python to build reliable, high‑performance backend services that solve complex optimization and scheduling problems.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of mission‑planning, scheduling, optimization, and operational‑automation systems.
• Develop and validate algorithms for large‑scale planning and resource‑allocation challenges.
• Build high‑performance APIs and distributed services for low‑latency, compute‑intensive workloads.
• Improve scalability, reliability, observability, and operational readiness of mission‑critical systems.
• Collaborate across software, flight dynamics, satellite operations, product, and engineering teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, or equivalent experience.
• 6+ years of professional software‑engineering experience with backend and distributed systems.
• Active TS/SCI clearance (maintainable throughout employment).
• Eligibility to meet ITAR requirements (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee).

Required skills

• Strong proficiency in Python.
• Experience designing, building, and operating production backend systems.
• Applied experience with optimization, scheduling, constraint programming, mixed‑integer programming, vehicle routing, or other OR methods.
• Knowledge of algorithms, data structures, computational complexity, and performance analysis.
• Design and troubleshooting of APIs, distributed systems, relational databases, and containerized cloud applications.
• Solid software‑engineering fundamentals: architecture, testing, CI/CD, observability, Git‑based workflows.
