Senior Roadway Project Engineer

About the role

Volkert is seeking an experienced Senior Roadway Project Engineer to lead transportation and civil design projects across its Southwest Region in Texas. The role involves delivering high‑quality roadway designs, managing subconsultants, and ensuring projects meet client expectations and DOT standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead or assist in the development of roadway project designs, directing engineers and designers.
• Prepare and modify reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, and design documents.
• Calculate plan quantities, engineering estimates, and develop construction specifications.
• Coordinate with subconsultants and ensure best practices across the team.
• Participate in business development meetings and client interactions.
• Maintain adherence to quality assurance and control standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Minimum 10 years of roadway design experience, preferably with TxDOT.
• Proven ability to meet DOT schedules, budgets, and specifications.
• Valid driver’s license and satisfactory motor vehicle record.

Required skills

• Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer.
• Experience using DOT design methods, plan preparation, standards, and specifications.
