Senior Research Engineer, Machine Learning Privacy

About the role

TikTok’s Privacy Innovation Lab is seeking a Senior Research Engineer to advance privacy‑enhanced machine learning technologies. You will collaborate globally to turn research breakthroughs into practical solutions for billions of users.

Key responsibilities

• Build a multi‑party joint modeling and data analysis platform.
• Translate privacy requirements from product teams into technical solutions and prototypes.
• Design and run large‑scale experiments with optimized algorithms on massive datasets.
• Develop open‑source tools and infrastructure for privacy‑focused research and engage with the community.

Required profile

• PhD or Master’s in Computer Science or related field, or 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience with federated learning, distributed ML algorithms, and related frameworks.
• Strong interest in privacy‑enhancing techniques such as differential privacy, secure multi‑party computation, and on‑device ML.
• Ability to work collaboratively across global teams.

Required skills

• Federated learning frameworks and distributed machine learning.
• TensorFlow, PyTorch, JAX.
• Programming languages: Go, C++, Python, Rust, Java.
