Senior Melter Spare (Relief) - Ductile Iron Melting

About the role

McWane Ductile New Jersey manufactures water distribution and infrastructure products, including iron ductile pipe. The Senior Melter Spare supports the melting department by maintaining and repairing critical furnace and related equipment so that production runs safely and efficiently. The role involves cleaning and rebuilding tap holes and slag systems, maintaining ladles and runners, operating melt deck equipment and keeping measurements and conditions right every day. It is a full-time position with a pay rate of $27.96 to $29.96.

Key responsibilities

• Follow safety rules, procedures and environmental requirements, complete job-specific environmental training and report safety concerns promptly.
• Maintain certifications such as lockout/tagout, confined space and fall protection.
• Clean and maintain slag and iron handling equipment, including bull ladles, tap holes, slag notches and runners.
• Chip, repair, rebuild and maintain tap holes and slag notches, inspecting high spots and slag areas daily.
• Maintain the melt box, spout and associated equipment.
• Operate production equipment such as the cupola, bull ladle and skip car, and carry out start-up duties like lancing the tap hole and supporting bottom drop.
• Inspect tools and equipment such as chipping guns and gas hoses, and keep the melt deck and work area clean.
• Complete other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Minimum 1-2 years of relevant industrial, manufacturing or foundry experience preferred.
• Able to comprehend and perform the tasks described in the job and work instructions.
• Physical demands include frequent walking, bending, standing, climbing and squatting, and lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally.
• Tolerance for high heat, noise, dust and wet conditions.
• Drug and alcohol-free workplace; successful candidates must pass a pre-employment background check, drug screening and physical.
